An access log is a text file containing an extensive list of all of the files accessed by your website visitors. All the files that were requested in one way or another will be included, so if you have a PHP script program and a website visitor opens only the home page, for instance, you might find plenty of files inside the log. It is because there are elements on the home page which are embedded - parts of other pages, pictures, etc. All of these files will be listed in the access log, so you're able to get a full picture of the way your website works. The information is in plain text format, so the logs are frequently described as "raw data" as well. An access log contains the name of each requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, plus the user’s IP address, browser and Operating System. More info, such as the referrer Internet site, is typically included as well. A log file could be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web statistics created by your web server.

Access Log Manager in Shared Web Hosting

When you get a shared web hosting from us, you will be able to determine if access logs must be generated and for which domains or subdomains in your account this must be done. You could activate this function from the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia CP, included with all shared accounts. Any domain name you host or subdomain you set up will be listed there and you'll see an On/Off option next to each one of them, so you can easily trigger or deactivate the generation of access logs independently for every website that you have. You may save a log to your PC by clicking on the Download link you'll see in the same exact section of the CP. The link will be available even after you stop the log generation, so you will still have access to the data gathered by our system.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your websites inside a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll have the option to enable or disable the generation of access logs with just several clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You shall find this function within the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access after you sign in. All it takes for our system to start generating logs is a single click on the On button that you'll see there. The feature can be triggered separately for any website regardless if it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you will find a full list of all the hosts in that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with a click and you could then view it manually or use some software on your laptop or computer. The log generation may be disabled by simply changing the On option to Off in the Logs section of your CP.
